Bath Half Marathon I’ve run a half marathon

The blog of a first time, not very good, slightly old, often injured trainee marathon runner. I have been 'running' since Feb 2008 and managed to plod round a half marathon in March 2009 but due to constant injuries haven't built any kind of consistency, I suppose this is what happens if one takes a 20 year break from exercise and then chooses running as the best value mid-life crisis.

2009 went well compared with 08. Only 12 weeks injured, my first half-marathon and some limited success with 'minimal' running shoes helped reduce injury. And I still love doing races!

2010 will be interesting to say the least. Tongue out

  • 5k : 24:11 23:52
  • 5 mile : 39:57
  • 10k : 49:49  48:16 New
  • 10 mile : 1:26:28
  • Half : 1:58:33 1:53:08

Decided with all the injuries that I can't get the mileage in for a 2010 marathon after all, not in any structured way at least so will postpone for a year and maybe try London if successful in the ballot.

A difficult run but that's normal... for me.

A warm evening again in SW London so a plod was on the cards. At some point I need to work out how to slow right down or the marathon will not be a success... but that's for the future. It's not as if I am fast, certainly not, I am average so I did an average run tonight.

At the outset I was aiming for between 5 and 7 miles, after a mile I favoured 5 as I didn't feel great but in the end I did just over 7 because that's what happens when I struggle, just keep going, it's a regular pattern by now.

Oh, and my old nemesis, the tibialis posterior is making small signs of being annoyed again. I guess it's only a year old, this injury, must be patient.

Not bad mileage considering you only planned between 5-7. Are you following a training plan of any sort? I need them to keep me focussed and have a short term goal to work towards.

That sounds a bit quicker than plodding and its always the upper bit of the target you reach once you're out there!
