Overview

Damn it i thought the favour would never be called in, but here iam 3 years after what i swore would be my last marathon about to do it all over again...

The 'race' is Paris next Aprill, the favour would be for my twin sister Catherine who has always dreamed of completing a marathon, and after having had her first child decided the time was right. Having completed New York, Chicago and Paris before i always promised i would help her round. My only saving grace is that she is looking for a time about 1 hour slower than i run, for this i love her!!!!

Having been woken in the middle of the night twice, once by my boyfriend and my brother in law coming home very very tipsy and also by the rain which hammered down causing a leak in the conservatory it was safe to say i was a little tired this morning!! This also is not helped by an 11 month old that has the vocal abilities of an opera singer, goodness knows how loud he will be when coming home tipsy to his eventual wife, i feel sorry for her already!!

So today was the first long run together, the weather was great if a little warm for the time of year, and just for a change i remembered to turn on nthe Garmin.. Catherine faired better than i anticipated manageing to keep a steady 10/11 minute mile pace. The aim of today was to complete 13 miles, however our route which took us down the Banbury canal towards Oxford ended up being 14 1/2 miles. A highlight was running by a drunk man at 9.30am who looked alot like Matthew Broderick struggling to walk straighht on the towpath, on our return he was still walking and not swimming, i lost money on this...... At 12 miles Catherine hit a bit of a wall, so i stopped her and stuffed some banana down her neck, within 5 minutes she was good to go again. Upon arrival home the Garmin was stopped, 2 hours 34 minutes in total. This is brilliant news for Cath, firstly she thought that she may be slower, secondly her legs felt pretty good and thirdly this was the furthest she had ever run in her life!!!!

What about me i hear you say!! oh i was fine, probably annoyed Cath with my singing to Queen and Billy Joel, she has got used to me being able to run faster than she can, and at the end of the day it is my job to get her round a marathon in 5 hours, so i ought to be faster and fitter than her...

Going to start experimenting with sports drink next week. I normally water my lucozade down to half strength, but there is a new brand of drink out 'Torq' which has come highly recommended by a cyclist friend who competes in 100 mile races, appaerntly not so sugary, if you know what i mean.

TTFN hope everyone else has had an enjoyable weekend.

As i am on holiday for a week, but actually going nowhere, i thought that i had better put some miles in , obviously in preperation for Cath's visit and run this weekend.. I managed 8 miles yesterday and had to go to hockey training last night so the legs were a little stiff this morning. No worries i thought a gentle run round the villages will be just what they need. Robin (boyfriend) dropped me 10 miles from home, i like this method as i am always getting closer to the finish if you get my drift!! Anyhow although the 10 miles only took me 1 1/2 hours the route was a wee bit hillier than anticipated, in fact it felt like i was scaling Everest with a sack of potatos strapped to each foot!!!. No doubt the legs could really have done with a rest day, and judging by the new 'walk' i have inherited they will definitewly be having a rest tomorrow. Swim and sauna sounds like the perfect tonic!!

On the plus side, have just discovered that the canal in Banbury has a pretty good towpath, so at least our run this weekend should be for the most flat. Just got to run by the shops first without being accidentally diverted into the new H and M......

So far Catherine has been doing most of the training, she lives in North Stainley Yorkshire whilst i reside in Banbury Oxfordshire. Catherine since coming up with this crazy idea has thrown herself full force at the task, and as she has had to start from a base fitness level of 0 has done amazingly well, since the early summer she has trained very slowly and steadily with some fellow dog walkers to 12 miles. I on the other hand having already done the marathon thing swapped to triathlon, less boredom factor plus i couldn't swim so it was a bit of a laugh!!

Now however i have another new pair of running shoes and coupled with Catherines phone call yesterday about aiming for a 13 miler this weekend when she is down visiting, i thought it may be a good idea to try and run longer than my 4 mile jaunt ( i would like to take this opportunity to mention that the 4 miler is REALLY hilly, and i do hillsprint repititions too!!! phew)....  So how did i fair, well 8 miles in 1 hour 10 minutes is not bad for starters, so iam pleasantly optomistic for Saturday. Needless to say Catherine would like a slower pace which i will be only too happy to oblige with, but from here on in i think the bicycle will have to take a back seat!!  although looking at my time today i can heartily reccomend spinning!!!

Hello also to other Realbuzz bloggers that i have met with before in both New York and Chicago, i'm sure you are still running as you were all slightly madder than me, hopefully i will hear from you too.
