Overview

A friend told me that this was supposed to be all about me so here goes.  Firstly I'm hippychick cos that's where I want to lose weight from my hips and cos I'm a chick.  71 because that's the year I was born.  I'm primarily a runner although I do do various other things, bodycombat, step and when the planets all align in a certain manner spin.  Exercise keeps me sane (literally).  4 years ago I was diagnosed as bipolar and in the space of 6 months managed to put on nearly as many stones so my doctor referred me to the local gym.  I'm now about 8 stone lighter although I'd still like to be about a further 3 stone done and I work out 5-6 days a week.  I have 2 long term goals to complete a triathalon and a half marathon both for MIND, but they're away off.  Running also helps me control some of my symptoms - when I'm sad it lifts my spirits and when I'm a little over happy it calms me down.

At the moment I'm training for the City of Manchester 10k and hoping to run the Great Yorkshire Run.  So read on for the every day trials and triumphs of a recreational runner.

Planned to have a day off today - out for a curry with TISM and shazzoah last night so was left still feeling stuffed this am and big brother had promised to take me to see the new Harry Potter film.  But was so fed up half way through the movie big bro bought me a Ben and Jerry's sundae, which left me thinking I better do some exercise when I got back.  So reluctantly I strapped on my new trainers and off I meandered.

I hate new trainers, I wish you could pay someone to break them in - my old ones were lovely and worn to my feet (but was told by the woman at sw--ky new gym that they were slightly too well worn for running).  Rant over.  Anyway 5k covered nice easy jog - and trainers a little bit more worn in.  Also first run for about 2 weeks, but was fairly easy so that bodes well for Fighting Cancer 5k in Blackburn next week.

Plans for next week - Mon Bodypump and Spin, Tuesday Circuits, Combat and Attack, Weds Run and Spin, Thursday Spin and Attack, Fri Spin and hospitalisation and if I do even half of that I'll be chuffed- and hopefully a few pounds lighter.

Circuits again this morning just me again.  I'll be spoilt at this rate.  Then this evening 30 mins spin followed by an hour of bodyattack.  Can anybody let me know if they actually like attack I think its a punishment from a cruel and vengeful god!  The music sucks and its not healthy to do that many jumping jacks.  The lengths I go to to burn 700 calories in an hour.  Went to bodypump last night as well.  No running again this week - it was hailstoning here today! Finish this week off with an hour of spin tomorrow.  Think it will be time to up the ante next week - I want to shift 5 lbs before I go away - so double classes for me for the next 6 weeks.

Didn't run on Sunday.  Fate intervened and I woke up in the early hours of Sunday with a temp of 104 and stomach cramps, which left me feeling like I'd been wrung out like a washcloth.  Think that was where my apathy came from I was obviously coming down with something - a sign if ever there was one that you should listen to your body.  So also had Monady off big brother was back from Spain and took me to the pictures to see the new Sandra Bullock movie (yes skinny girl my taste in movies isn't improving at all).

Today went to a circuit class at the sw--ky new gym - only me there so for the price of class admission I got a one-on-one personal training session - running through cones, using weights, fitball and medicine balls and it was absolutely brillant - the hour absolutely flew - so trying to round up some of my elusive new gym buddies to come with me.  Night off tonight the weather is terrible and I thought I'd give bodycombat a rest.  Yoga first thing tomorrow am, bodypump tomorrow night, circuits again on Thursday and double spin in the pm.  So all in all another quiet week.

Sat watching the Tour again and trying to decide whether or not to do tomorrow's Moonraker 10k.  This week has been a bit weird for me.  Physically not been that well and only done gym based work - no real running at all.  Wednesday saw me off to the doctor's for my monthly blood test and due to the stresses of dad some of my bipolar symptoms have re-appeared and more medicinal tweeks have left me feeling a bit rough.  But I am aware that if I give in to these physical symptoms my mental ones will probably get worse as well.  An argument for running tomorrow if ever there was one.  Also a bit scared of the course as well - there is a bloody great hill at the beginning, which goes for the first couple of k, but I don't want the fact that I came last in Manchester to deter me either - should I get back on the horse (metaphorically speaking that is ).  As you can tell I'm going back and forwards every 5 minutes as to what to do.  I really am the queen of indecision.

Before I go skinny girl, if you're reading this in Bath.  We must do coffee when you get back.  I'm in need of a girly chat.

Joggersaurus - good luck for the last round next week.  Have you hit mile 25 yet?

And the forgotten one - enjoy your week off.  I'll expect to hear all about the club again next week.

And finally TISM I agree with squa25 I need a key to your abbreviations as well.  And hope your getting more used to the orthotics - my friend Karen claims once they've bedded in its like having new feet!

Tata for now

No blogs yet this week as house has been being rewired and its been a total nightmare.  No running either because of the iffy weather and because this week its just been hard to motivate myself.  Have managed to fit a few things in though- Monday bodypump and spin, Tuesday Bodycombat and Yoga, Wednesday an hour long training session with the torturer - all I can asy is ouch and tonight beginners spin (all that watching Tour de France has inspired me ). I was born in the same month and year as Lance Armstrong so if he can get a podium place in the tour I reckon I can manage that half marathon.  Also I got invited to my 20 year high school reunion today so its diet for me from now on.  Anyway time to go and on another note a big smile to the forgotten one, she's having a rough time because of small-minded people.

Weather here was rubbish again so toodled off to the gym (had been let down once again by Sarah but was not to be deterred).   25 mins on the treadmill at a nice steady jog and I was dripping with sweat and rueing the fact that I'd forgotten my ipod.  Followed it by 15 minutes on the bike of interval training and 10 mins of yoga stretches to finish and I was done.  Not a massive amount done but today was an easy day.  I'd already trained 5 days this week and at least I can say I did a bit.  Mum convinced that I've got swine flu as I seem to be permenantly coughing and sneezing at the moment - but I don't feel ill just like I've got bad hayfever.  Rest day again tomorrow I think then if I am coming down with something I'll recharge a bit.  Off to look at a snazzy new gym as well that does yoga and alternate therapies as well as traditional circuits, personal training etc.  How sad am I ?  I'm really excited.

And finally greetings from skinny girl in Turkey - she says its really hot and she's doing bugger all exercise - just a few laps of the pool.

Hope wherever you are the weather is better than here.  Planning a long run today but the weather is foul - reckon the rain is in for the day.  So going to take all your well meant advice and have a day off.  Yesterday was an easy session just a half hour spin, but it was just what I needed to realease the tension of the last couple of days.  So thanks to everybody who dragged me along Sarah and Karen especially.  I'm off to watch the Tour de France now - oh guess what its raining!

Had arranged to run with my buddie Sarah today.  Had it all planned 5 miles through the industrial estate ( I'm a bit nervous running through there on my own) and including a couple of hills.  Anyway 10 mins before we're due to go out she texted me to say couldn't make it , only problem was I'd left 5 mins earlier.  So after 10 mins waiting about I gathered she wasn't coming (teach me to take my phone) and decided to do a quick circuit anyway.  So 5k later I staggered home after finding out to my absolute horror that it was a lot windier than I'd thought and my legs were sore from bodycombat last night.  Nice to have been out and done something though even if it wasn't the long run I'd planned.  Gentle day tomorrow spin and some yoga.  Maybe I'll fit in that long run.  Still training for the moonraker 10k at the end of the month so got to keep the miles up.
