LOL

I believe its been two weeks or more since my last post.. So much has happen all of it is not running related but what’s new there..

Karen’s Mum is back in hospital :-( she was admitted with chest pains. She had spent the night at A & E (like everyone has to these days!!). She went of an angiogram that showed problems that only a triple bypass would fix. Then she was in intensive care. Had an operation in the middle of the night and things were not looking good. She had an internal bleed from the angiogram, which they plugged and from this they kept her sedated while she add a blood filter and oil change due to the dye and the complications with her kidneys which took 24hrs. Coming round from this she was so confused and talking nonsense but is aware of it?? She said not to tell anyone what she is saying and we told her not to worry-it would be all over facebook that afternoon. She smiled :-) Difficult to tell at this point if she is better or worse. Three days of dialysis followed two normal sessions and an extra one to filter off the sedative and dye. The days have past with a blur and Mum is being transferred to Basildon hospital this week for 2 stents. They have decided that she is not well enough for a bypass. She may be home soon early next week fingers cross! All this has meant daily trips to the hospital sometimes double visits to keep Mum’s morale up. In the mid of all this AHHHHHHH what on earth! Freya has Chickenpox so our hospital visits where placed on Hold :-( JUST GIVE US A BREAK!!!!!!!! Two days later it’s not Chickenpox!!!!!!! Some sort of rash thingy that little get kids bless them.

13th Feb - Taking a break. Going to "Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum" London for Bradley's Birthday treat great place to visit and loads of weird stuff right up my street. Great day out!!

Then last week my brothers wife suddenly dies, we have know idea how, as we are still awaiting the post mortem. She was only sixty, my brother is in an emotional state, which goes without saying. But this has left all the family dumb struck. They say bad things come in threes, I’m starting to think it’s more like six’s!

As for me the last run was 13.2miles. Well the knee was pretty sore, so I have rested, iced and will soon be out again plodding the street. The plan is still Halsted.

Fact of the day

The letter G was invented by a Roman called Spurius Carvilius Ruga.

Quote of the day

Nobody ever said, "Gee, I must go see that movie, I hear it came in under budget". BILLY WILDER

On This Day

·       1820: Police arrest the plotters of the ‘Cato Street Conspiracy’, who planned to blow up the British cabinet.

·       1903: The United States receives a 'perpetual lease' on Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, now home to Camp X-Ray prison.

·       1945: Marines raise the US flag on Iwo Jima in the Pacific, in one of the great iconic images of World War Two.

Yesterdays run was one of two sessions the first 6.7miles were run with my ‘Marathon girl’ Karen. It was her first adventure outside and what a beautiful day. We set out with a jog/walk plan to cover each mile. We were getting through each mile at around 13.5min/miles, it may have been more walk than jog but the main thing was Karen was outside. I was also pleased to hear that I was behaving myself by not pushing Karen to far that she wants to punch my lights out (I must be doing something wrong). The end of the first loop 6.7miles and I drop Karen off (at our front door) and I continue on my own loop 6.7miles. The next 4miles was done at race pace (8.40) the last 2miles were slower at 9.00. The right knee niggle was still there but no worse than before. So, 13.2miles done and neg splits LOL.

Today is Sunday (well done daza, I here you say) and a day of rest, which I needed after yesterdays 13.2miles the right knee has had a slight reaction to the run. I have cancelled my 4miler this morning biofreezed and stretched both quads & calves every two hours. Scheduled Rest day tomorrow but more of the same stretching through the day.

the rest of the weekend was covered off with a great meal out Saturday night, sorry forgot after watching England beat Wales!!! and today Church then treating Karen to Sunday Lunch.

what a great weekend its a shame work get in the way....

my world is fluffy..enjoy yours

This morning was a 4.30am get up and out the door by 4.52am.

I missed my run on Wednesday morning due to being a dummy, was all ready for a 4.45am get up but I decided to set the alarm for pm instead of am!!!! Doh! and just couldn’t get out that evening due to wine drinking.

Anyway, this morning was down as a steady 6miles. Used a new route (which is a section from a longer run, if that makes any sense) with one steep climb near to the end (Church Hill, Benfleet. Kieth_L knows the one). A lot warmer this morning and soon looked like a cricket umpire with my jacket around my waist & beanie rammed and half hanging out of my pocket (good look it wasn’t) and it was really a shorts morning. All was going okay until mile 3 small niggle in my right knee which did go away, getting to the base of Church Hill wasn’t going to help the knee started to climb at my set plod then went to plan B and walk up from halfway (better to be safe, than sorry at this stage) then plodded on to the end.

Total was 5.5miles in 52.23 and some 875cal burnt.

Now John, a monkey bath is one were as you step in, its so damn hot you hop from one foot to the other howling like a monkey “ooh ooh ooh ah ah ah” while flapping our arms. Great fun!

This evening was the first of 14 weeks of fun, first session 1 miles warm up; then 6x 2mins hard; 6x 1 min recovery; 3miles steady to finish off.

It was the first time I have used Lel (Garmin) for intervals for sometime, the last outing about year ago now it all went very wrong and I said I would never use the damn thing again! Now after reading the manual it all seems so easy.

The 2min sections run @7.40ish recoveries @10.00ish with the last three miles @9.50ish in total 6.54miles in 1:01:38 and 1,038 cal’s.

Happy with the session and all feels pretty good, going to biofreeze (gel ice) my back & knees just as a precaution after a lovely monkey bath!!

Silly o’clock start tomorrow another steady 6miles.

 Avg HR: 166 bpm
 Max HR: 194 bpm
 Max Avg HR: 178 bpm
 Calories: 4,243 C

this months totals not great, but i only started halfway into the month so its not to bad really?

The next 14 weeks have just been planned out this morning. Looks like I’m quite busy mid March to April, I have 5x 20milers booked with an option to up the mid two within this block to 22-23miles if I feel good on the day plus mid week runs of 10miles split into two session run to work and then run home. I’m also looking to get back down the club in two weeks to get some quality sessions under my belt. I still have this goal of going under 4hrs in my head, not sure if I’m going to do it in this race with the lack of running these last few months and I still have some doubts over my back we will have to see?

Now, I’m in big trouble at home my morning duties has me preparing/packing lunches of all the Smiffy’s. Looks like I have just eaten Karen’s Soup (nice Chicken) so she has mine (not so nice something with vegetables) or she might have Brad’s tuna sandwich if I have really muck-it up! In which case I may well be sleeping in the dog cage with Dublin tonight.

This morning was up & out by 6.40, yep I know it was Saturday. The plan was turned on its head last night when the Tesco delivery turn up to late!! I wanted to get an extra run in. So, this morning I was pushing the legs to hit 10miles (bit silly as it was 4mile jump). I have changed my day for my LSR to a Saturday to allow me a rest day before my longer runs and to get a recovery run in on Sunday. Well it sounds good.

The run itself was fine bit hard going in places and after the first mile I was getting to hot so off came the jacket, a small twinge behind my right knee & hamstring started up at around mile 3 it didn’t last long and didn’t return (must be growing pains). Now at this point around mile 5 I had to stop fore some reason my earphones on the iplod were pulling and rubbing my poor little ears and therefore the rest of the run I was naked of music. Mid run the chill factor kicked in the temperature dropped a couple of degrees it did feel a lot colder from when I started off. Anyway 10.61miles done legs feel ok and so does the back, which is my main worry.

Miles 10.61; 01:42:18 @09:38; cals 1,697 happy with this at this stage.
