Overview

Having run my first marathon in April 2007 I am desperate to do it again. This is partly because I didn't get the experience I hoped for, because of my injuries I took forever to complete it - 7 hours 39 mins and 37 seconds. Throughout training I had problems with my ITB which luckily since then has almost gone, but been replaced by other injuries namely heel problems which have meant that I have not run since October 2008. Had orthotics made in Feb 2009 which are helping and I am determined to get back into it. I wont be fit enough for 2010 but hopefully 2011 will be my year. I have bowed to pressure and decided not to move my blog so I am still here. I have got a ballot place in the Great North Run for September 2010 which I can't wait for.

I have set myself some targets which will help me keep motivated and will mean that in 2010 I will achieve my goal of completing the marathon in under 6 hours:

  • run 5 k in under 30mins
  • manage my diabetes better (had insulin dependant diabetes since I was 13, now 38 years old)
  • loose weight
  • keep finding races to enter
  • improve my core stability

Races -

Great North Run - 2010 (would love to beat previous half marathon time of 3hr 6 mins- very flat Blackpool course and complete it in uner 2hr 45mins)

Virgin London Marathon - April 2011

booked a hangover!

I haven't been running since my last post as I need to buy new shoes to wear all the time instead of my docs. If I run and change my shoes and my foot hurts then I won't know if it is the shoes or the running. I hate shoe shopping. Having to wear orthotics makes it really difficult to find shoes which they fit in. The podiatist said to get walking boots or shoes or possibly off road trainers so I have been to blacks and tried every pair but they are either too tight once I put the insole in or my foot slips. I'm off to the running shop tomorrow to see if I have more luck there. Jim and I have a kid free evening tomorrow as we are going to Leeds to see the Levellers play and then stopping over with our friend so we can have a hangover in piece on Friday!

Must remember to pack the painkillers!

Not sure where you are Cath, but find a good shoe shop which measures your gait etc to fit your shoes - a good one in Bradford is Sportshoes Unlimited..... I cant imagine running in walking boots is going to be easy?? Enjoy your kiddie free night and fit some good running in soon - good luck!!

Blimey, The Levellers ?

Are they still going ?

I went to see them whilst at Uni in 1991, but they'd sold out (of tickets).
