I'm so excited to be in the 2010 London Marathon... Please do visit my sponsorship page if you haven't done so already - http://www.justgiving.com/AlexAlderMarathon - remember those nice people at Barclays will be doubling all donations!

The dream started in 2006, watching the marathon on TV with Annabel (then 5) and seeing Paula Radcliffe being generally amazing... Annabel spent the next few months wanting to be Paula and I couldn't get the fab course out of my mind. I ran bits of it and thought how amazing it would be to do it for real... although 6 miles was the furthest I'd ever run.

I've never been organised enough to apply but in early January this year got the offer of a late cancellation from those wonderful people at World Emergency Relief... since when I've been training in earnest! I'll be updating my blog after each run with details of what I'm up to and how much it's hurting...

Plus photos from anyone quick enough to snap me on their cameraphones as I dash round Central and Sotuh East London...

Forerunner broken, legs still working

Got a brand new Forerunner 305 2 weeks ago after my last one started taking on water... after I accidentally drove the car over it! A great service from Garmin but the replacement has only last 2 weeks and now the Mode button is broken... Will be 2/3 days before they can get me another replacement, my powers will be weak without my trusty GPS!

Somehow I managed to get my first interval run program into the watch without the button, tried it out this morning and it was a lot easier than counting crocodiles... A nice run before work including 8 sprint sections... not that my 8th sprint was very fast...

The whole early morning bracing run experience was sealed by Barclays - no hot water in the showers today!

Take it you didnt mention to Garmin customer services that you ran over it in your car :-)

Once you get the intervals programmed in they are great for controlling you...would be lost without mine for a few days

Sounds like a good sprint session. I lost my first garmin when I put it on the roof of my car to get its bearings and then forgot it and drove off!
