Overview

Last year I had this over whelming urge to run the marathon and it had to be London. I got reject but that didn't stop me I must have written a thousand letters and got a Golden Bond Place. So - I've finally ran the marathon!!!! I had such a fantastic day - even with the rain the crowds were great. The first thing I said when I finished is I want to go again -

So I entered the ballot .........

With a little more training and focus I know next time I'll be able to run faster and harder

it's been so long since I posted anything but today I got the dreaded magazine.

One phone call home and the message was it's arrived .. All day long my mind kept drifting to images of me in my lovely new fleece. Eventually I got home but could I find the post ???  There sat a pile of letters, Christmas catalogues, bills, junk mail .. where was it ?? Had my other half hidden it thinking another reject would be too much for me to handle?? Then I looked again - ah there it was all the time .. but this was a thin parcel .. could it be .. no don't get your hopes up ... yes it was

I've been accepted. I'm in for 2009 !!!!!!!!!!

So the rest of the day I have spent with a stupid grin - even to my trip to the dentist when they told me I need a filling I just smiled back and looked really pleased with the news. She must have thought I was demented.

So I the hard work needs to pick up a gear - it's great to be back

with very little running goes very little blogging ..oops. Anyway I'm still running just little 5k's not the Hal's training plan of 12 miles, 15 miles, 20 miles etc... oh how I miss those days.

The little old man ( the dog not my other half ... but then again) leg is really starting to stiffen up after long runs or walks, so we're down to 20 minute runs maximum. He still loves it but old age is sneaking up fast.

I on the other hand  now find the 20/30 minute run a breeze - funny how three years ago 5 k sounded a long way.

I'm now trying to increase my upper body strength ready for my  Mount Blanc climb. But reading the blurb they recommend the best training is running - yes something I like !!!  So looks like I'm about to start running again - well training properly - so I'll be back blogging again.

what's happened to my training??? I seem to have ended up at the gym again - the weather's nice - so why didn't I run?? Well my other half has hurt his leg again overdoing the speed sessions - so had to have a week non-weight bearing exercise ( the gym). As for me it's just too easy to follow along and end up in the gym - once there I keep thinking how much I prefer fresh air.

The other thing been keeping me busy is work, work, work. We're short of people at the moment which means covering 3 jobs at once -not fun. So this bank holiday I've planned a hill walk with dog and 2 trails runs - not checked the weather but rain or shine I'm going - so wait to Tuesday and I'll be reporting another weekend at the gym opps!!

Anyway off the gym now - addicted moi .....................

what a lovely spell of weather - can't believe how hot it was this weekend.  Spent yet another weekend gardening, dog walking, drinking nicely chilled white wine and running of course.

I went for a nice 5k run which due to my poor sense of direction ended up 4.5 miles - according to the Garmin.  But wow was it hot - I drank most of my bottle of water - which I never do. I had a short race with a very small dog - who seemed to great delight in trying to keep up - much to his owners amusement. Unlike some other dogs he dutifully ran beside me - didn't try to trip me and then sat down when he'd had enough. When I finally got back to the car - after finding the path that I'd spent a mile looking for it said 28 degrees - all I could think is how did people run the 2007 marathon - I'm so glad I had rain and hail for mine. Well that's something I never thought I'd say

So today I went to the nice cool gym - this time I did 5k on the treadmill - even I can't get lost on that!! And then some cross training for another 45 mins - I'm trying to build up my leg strength and endurance - but as for arm work nah I'm a wimp

Anyway off to read what you've all been up to

OK - so why are bank holidays always wet??? I've never figured out why 9 times out of 10 we get rain on our free day off work.

Anyway I kept up the good old tradition of sorting the garden out. It looked very neglected and in need of a good tidy up - so two days later I've a garden again and a lot less money after several trips to the garden center.  The dog had a great time digging up the new plants I'd just planted, running off with bits of twigs and rubbish, charging through the flower beds etc...  Oh and I can hardly walk - I look like I've just run another marathon - not spent the last couple of days gardening - my legs ache, my back aches and  I've discovered new muscles to ache ............

As for the rest of my weekend I've managed a couple of quick trips to the gym - nice easy sessions and a few short runs between the rain showers. My 20 minute run today was so hard with my aching muscles, but I feel so much better now. I've also managed to relax with friends over several nice meals and bottles of wine - so all in all a very balanced weekend.

Hope everyone else has had a good one

I haven't been on here for so long - I tried to find my last blog and it was buried pages ago!!

Well work has kept me busy and away from the gym and running

But yesterday was so nice I had to go for a nice 5k - which lasted about 28 mins. I've still to download it from my Garmin - so I don't know my splits yet but know I had a bit of a collision with a roving rover mid way so that could look interesting on the chart !!

I don't know about everyone else but I wish I'd got my act together and applied for a few more events this summer. I've a few planned for September and even the Grim Challenge (nice cold wet muddy event !!) in December but nothing in the summer?? However I am climbing Mount Blanc in August - so that'll keep me fit and busy.  I'm planning some serious hill training over the next few weeks - to build up my strength - although endurance and stubbornness to succeed/not give up has never been a problem for me.

My niece aged 11 has asked to come with me and run next years marathon too - she was quiet peeved when I said she was too young  - "huh I'm fitter than a lot of those oldies" was the response. She loves running, tennis and any adventure sport - my sister says she's a mini me!!

Anyway - have  a great bank holiday all - lets hope the weather stays nice

It's nice to be back after my little trip in cyberspace but it was too dark and lonely for me. So don't believe what you read in the papers -

This year's hottest destination: cyberspace (The Observer 18 March 2007)

Anyway - it's so last year

It's great to read all your blogs. Has anyone got a definitive list of who from the class of 2008 is in the ballot for 2009?

Well I'm back at the gym this week getting myself ready for another weekend of running. Last weekend was only a 2 mile this weekend my other half (who didn't run the marathon) has a 10 mile planned for me. He reckons I've had enough rest and need to enjoy the good weather.

Also got some dog walking planned poor pooch lost out those last few weeks before the tapper.
