Overview

I suffer from asthma and have never been able to run without having an attack. January 2005 I decided that along with several other lifestyle changes, I was going to conquer my asthma. I set myself the goal of running (not walking) the Race for Life May 2005 and suceeded in getting round the course in 35 minutes without an attack. Since then my committment to running has been minimal and I have decided that I need to get back on track, so I have entered the Great SOuth Run. However, I am struggling to get motivated and always have an excuse for not running so I thought I would give this blog a go and see whether it helps.

I have started a new post in the running training section to record my efforts up to my next target race - the Stubbington 10K in January. Hope to still hear from some of you that have provided me with so much support over the last few months!

I can't believe the number of people who I didn't get round to asking for sponsorship, who are now giving me money after the event! Thanks everyone! It is particularly helpful to the charity at the moment as we have just had some bad publicity due to a completely fictious article in the local newspaper including the publication of names and home addresses of some of our volunteers! The result is that the volunteers are getting animals dumped on their doorsteps and we are already full to capacity. We are contacting other charities to try and find space for them, but until then we have animals living in downstairs cloakrooms!

Can't wait to get out running again. The GSR has filled me fullof enthusiasm, but I had better wait until the blisters have healed (struggling to walk at the moment) and the muscles recovered. Continuing on from yesterday - I would also like to say thanks to my In-Laws who came and supported us in the rain. I was anxious that they would try to pamper me too much before, so that I wouldn't be able to warm up properly, stuff me full of chocolate straight afterwards (which would have made me sick), and try to give me a big hug when my legs felt like jelly and would have collapsed at the slightest excuse. However, they were great (although they did insist on leaving chocolate with us, I didn't eat it). And it was wonderful having someone else drive me home and look after my dry clothes.

Do I continue with this blog or change to a new category? What is everyone else going to do?

What an experience! Even with the rain. Have already registered for notification for entry for next year. Damn hard work - chafing on my shoulders and a blister about the size of a two-pence piece on the sole of my foot but I would recommend it to anyone. Completed in 1:58:36, which was a disappointment as I wanted to finish nearer 1:50, but I managed to run all the way round and found the energy to encourage those that were struggling! Well done to everyone else. I was on the web last night checking out everyone elses times and congratulatios in particular to Sharon Taylor and the Roberts sisters! I noticed that you all beat me though by a long way, but who cares! In particular I want to say thanks to all the spectators who cheered me on even though they didn't know me and I wasn't running for their charity. Also to all the Marshalls and police. Thanks everyone for standing out in the rain and geting soaked and chilled just to put on a spectacular event for us! Here's to next year!!!!

Met my new running partner last night. I think we have compatible personalities, just need to see whether he runs at the same pace as me. Looking forward to trying different routes and getting a bit of motivation back. With Hubby's parents coming to stay for the weekend, tonight is my last chance to get organised for the race. I want to pack my bag of things to take: clothes, post-race snack, water, race number, chip, bin bag (in case it rains) etc. I am very nervous now. I didn't sleep very well last night and I can't seem to relax my shoulders today. I think a session of Tai Chi might be in order tonight if I don't want to end up a complete wreak before race day! This will be my last chance to blog so good luck everybody and I will see you at the finish line!

Hopefully I will be meeting up with my running partner tonight. We tried to meet for the first time at the weekend but other committments got in the way. We contacted each other through www.runningpartners.org.uk so have little information about each other. Hubby's coming too so I will be safe I now have £95.57 worth of sponsorship plus whatever they have raised for me in the shop. Not as much as I would have liked but I should have started collecting earlier!

Feeling positive but I am running out of time. I still have sponsorship to raise, to put the charity transfers on the T-shirt, to get organised for the In-Laws and to decide how I am getting there. My sister has just contacted me asking what I want for Christmas - Its far to early to be thinking about that yet and the only thing that comes to mind is some new running shoes. I hope everyone else is organised and looking forward to the race. I am both excited and nervous. Good luck with the next few days everyone and lets hope we can all stay injury free until then!
