Hello, and thanks for reading my blog!

My name's Shaun, I'm 25 and live in Newcastle Upon Tyne although I'm originally from Ipswich.

I started running at the beginning of 2007  as a means to lose weight, and completed the Great North Run that year.  Since then I have done the GNR again as well as several other 5k, 10k and half-marathon races including the Reading half where I finally met some fellow bloggers off this site.

The 13th April 2008 saw me complete my first London Marathon.  An unfortunate injury early on saw me miss my target time of 3:45 by almost an hour, but I entered the ballot for 2009 and I'm trying again for 2010 - hope to see you at the start line!

Possibly foolish

That class may not have been the best idea I've ever had.

I headed to the gym to try out the Body Pump Express class before work this morning (pretty much the same as a regular Body Pump class but only 45mins long).  I tried it a couple of years ago when I was a member of the Fitness First and enjoyed it then so it seemed a good stand-in workout until I get my gym induction and programme tomorrow night.

It was hard work.  I really enjoyed it despite sweating like a [insert swear word here] within ten minutes of starting.  Only two of us showed up so we got personal service from the instructor; there was also no escaping when it got tough!  The last set of lunges pretty much kiled my legs (lunges are not fun) which would have been fine, but this evening's running club session is 28mins of running up and down a big hill in Heaton park with a five mile round trip there and back.  If I can keep up with the back of Group 2 this week I'll be very surprised indeed!

Possibly not the best thing to schedule for the same day as speedwork; I'll remember that in the future...

Personal training, no escape Shaun. Conversation I listened to on radio spoke of playing the triangle in an orchestra or being a second violin where you can just hide in the crowd. Not sure that's a very good analogy!

hhmm, yeah i find that when there are only a few in a class you have to work harder. our spin instructor is always much more scrutinising of our technique when there are only 4 or 5 of us.

good luck for running club tonight, hope your legs hold out for you :D

I would suggest trying to round up a few more people so you dont get the personal attention.

hahaha - it was us fine Kiwis who invented Body Pump. We know how to work hard :-)
Bet you are really aching tomorrow and the next day. I remember once it worked my triceps so hard I couldn't even brush my teeth afterwards!!
Running club should finish you off nicely.
