The diary of a thirty something forty year old marathon runner and my quest to join the 100 Marathon Club.....12 13 down, 88 87 to go! Laughing

Ran my 1st half marathon aged 14 (Great North Run) and my second 19th years later (yep, the Great North Run again).

I'm a huge advocate of Heart Rate monitors and have been using them to help me train for the last 4 years or so. I'm currently using the Polar RS800 with the GPS G3 unit. Its the Mutts Nuts.

15 mile LSR

Same old same really. 4 weeks before Marathon.....must be a 15 miles LSR!

The weather was a little odd this morning. Forecast was for dry and sunny IIRC. It was cloudy and wet. As it was raining before I set off I swapped the gillet for my super snug and dry Adidas Adistar Gore Windstopper jacket. Well, surprise surprise that after a mile the rain had stopped and then after another couple the clouds had started to lift. Then the sun started to make an appearance. Unzipped my jacket just about all the way down. By 5 miles I was baking.
Didn't bother taking any fluid with me either as I never need it when it raining. On turning around at the 7.5 mile point I was running into a slight breeze and needed to re-zip up my jacket to stop the breeze from giving me a chill. To say that I was warm was an understatement. Certainly could have done with a slurp of a drink but managed to get back home without one. Running slightly dehydrated is never a problem for me. Never normally bother with fluid in a marathon until at least the 15 mile point but I will always start a marathon well hydrated.

Managed the 15 miles in 2 hours 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Average Heart Rate of 144 and a Polar PI rating of 61.

Muscles and joints were fine today after Friday's fall and subsequent bruising etc etc. Got into a very nice rhythm this morning. Only "issue" was that my heart rate was a little higher than I would have liked.

Easy 7 miles tomorrow lunchtime.

Same old? right.....2 hours 15 miles, reckon your stepping up!

Equally also find it a tough choice when the weathers bad, don't like jackets and figure more often than not best is to dess down and hope things hot up....clearly today they did ;o)

You might want to think about taking a drink with you. I got dehydrated once when I wasn't expecting it and felt quite ill and only just managed to make it home. Always take one with me now for any runs over 5 miles. Good time for your run though.
