Overview

Strokeman to Marathonman

In 2004 I had a Stroke which left me unable to walk for several days and changed my life forever. After several months recovering, I found running.

After numerous 10k's and several Half Marathons, in April 2007 I completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 28 minutes and proved to myself and others that there was 'Life after Stroke'. I raised £5,000 for Stroke charities in the process.

After missing out on the the 2008 FLM ballot I ignored a minor injury and trained for and ran the Edinburgh Marathon. A big mistake, but hindsight is a wonderful thing? I am now stuck with a chronic Achilles Tendon injury which forced me to defer my 2009 FLM ballot place.

I am not wasting a London Marathon place, it is so special. I intend to get myself in the best physical shape of my life and run/walk it if I have to. So with 53 weeks to go, away we go again.

Rest up Ruddy

I have trained really hard this week and deserve a day off, so I am having one. Six hours of training since Monday means I am entitled? Yesterday was 5 miles at lunch in about 46.5 minutes.

I spent this morning up town with my two girlies buying Birthday Pressies for Karen (Wednesday). I also booked some tickets for Tommy Steele in "Scrooge" a week on Thursday. Priced at £32.50 each it had better be good! I love the "A Christmas Carol" story and this show got rave reviews when it visited Hull two years ago, so here's hoping!

Me and Katie have just baked some flapjack, which will soon become Chocolate flapjack and that is it for the day - I wish! I think I am making home made fish n chips for tea and I need to fit in a visit to my mum's as well, as I cannot make it tomorrow.

Sunday will be another busy day and will mean my 10 miler will have to start at 7.30 in the morning. The weather looks okay, it will happen.

The early start is needed as we need to be in Sc--thorpe for an 11 am kick off when Alex will be playing Rugby Union, against his cousin Daniel for the first time. Both sets of parents plus Grandad will be there for this titanic clash. I hope there is no crowd trouble as Daniel's dad is 6'5" and an ex Professional Rugby League player!

I hope your weekend is going well?

Ruddy
