Overview

Strokeman to Marathonman

In 2004 I had a Stroke which left me unable to walk for several days and changed my life forever. After several months recovering, I found running.

After numerous 10k's and several Half Marathons, in April 2007 I completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 28 minutes and proved to myself and others that there was 'Life after Stroke'. I raised £5,000 for Stroke charities in the process.

After missing out on the the 2008 FLM ballot I ignored a minor injury and trained for and ran the Edinburgh Marathon. A big mistake, but hindsight is a wonderful thing? I am now stuck with a chronic Achilles Tendon injury which forced me to defer my 2009 FLM ballot place.

I am not wasting a London Marathon place, it is so special. I intend to get myself in the best physical shape of my life and run/walk it if I have to. So with 53 weeks to go, away we go again.

No blogging since Wednesday

What have i been up to?

My cat Disney had a RTA in June and has been costing me money ever since, he had further surgery on Wednesday on his hip and jaw. He is back home now and I am £260 poorer...........about£1750 for the year........mad? Yes, no argument. If I had known how much it was going to cost at the start, what would I have said? I feel like I am on a runaway train now and unable to get off or all what I have invested in him would have been a waste of money. I think he appreciates it!

After missing my second run on the trot on Wednesday through an ankle (not achilles) problem, I gymed both Wednesday and Thursday for an hour each day and worked really hard to keep my fitness up. Thursday night me, Karen and two friends went to the Theatre and watched "Scrooge" starring Tommy Steele. Fantastic show! I think Tommy is 72 and don't know how he does it? He was on the stage all night and never missed a note!

Friday, the ankle allowed me to run. I decided to avoid the hard paths and opted for a treadmill 10k, which I completed in just under 59 mins. Not too many problems afterwards so that means I will be attempting 10 mile on the road tomorrow, with an ice bucket waiting for the ankle when I get home.

No blogs read for days, sorry! Hope your all well?

Ruddy

You would have paid even if you had known how much it would cost. They become part of the family as soon as you carry them through the door. We are about to find this out again. Went to the RSPCA today and are going back tomorrow to reserve a kitten if she has gone a 9 mth old cat.
Well done on not running and keeping up the fitness at the gym.

Oh good luck with the 10 miler tomorrow. Great that you are keeping up the fitness with the gym.Nothing quite like putting the miles in outside but you don't want to be overdoing it with the injury either.
I hope that cat really loves you :-)

I'm sure word is out in the Cat World and you are probably St Ruddy, Patron Saint of RTAs.

I'm well, thanks for asking.
As you know we just got a dog. I remember the heartache when we had the last one put down and never want to go through it again. They are almost like one of the kids but that's half the problem, that unconditional love you get off them when they are younger disappears but the cat/dog will never stop loving you, as I am finding out already. I can't move without the bloody thing following me!
We love them mate and that is why we do all we can for them.
Good luck with the 10 miler today.
