This feels like i've come back to school after the summer holidays and am being asked to write what I got up to. Luckily for you I wont be writing the same. Mainly because back then I did sod all in the holidays. With just a week away from running and writing the blog I am fully refreshed and raring to go again. I managed to catch up with everything and I even read a book that wasn't to do with running or anybodies wild adventures (usually the only things I read). Instead I read "Messiah". A brilliant book but a real head.... I highly recommend it.
Having the rest week last week was perfect timing because of the weather. It was horrible out there. Every time I heard the wind howling and the rain against the window I did spare a thought for all you lot out there running. I even felt a little guilty for the people who I did training plans for and sent them out in it. "What wont kill you will only make you stronger". That's what I told myself anyway. Maybe I should put that as a signature to each email with the plans?
The niggle that I had has seemed to have disappeared in that week too. Which is one of the main reasons why I took the time off. I'll just see how it goes when I start running again tomorrow. I'll take the first run pretty easy and minimal mileage.
I did do the usual cycling last week so it wasn't a complete sedentary week. I covered just under 100 miles which just kept things ticking over nicely. In fact a couple of the days were outright gruelling and the best I could manage was an average speed of 9mph one day because the wind was smack bang in my face the whole way. But I was glad of the exercise. The only other problem I had last week was at night. Because of the lack of exercise by the time I went to bed I was full of energy. It was driving me mad.
As you all know i'm running for the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) next year because my mates Dad has Parkinson's. Well they got in touch with me to get some further info so they could do a press release for some of the local papers. The bigger ones this time and not the village magazine which I have a page spread in January.
They asked me all kinds of questions mainly about me and what kind of person I am but also how I plan on training for the 102 miler etc. So I told them about the other events that i'm doing in preparation. Then last Friday I get an email from the PDS " attached is a copy of the press release that we have sent out to your local papers". I have to admit I was very excited. I know it's not the best quality to have but I do like this kind of stuff.
I opened the attacment and the header hit me "5 Races, 322 Miles For PDS"Sh!t!!!!!!! To get the publicity in early they have used all 5 races. The first one is in January and they've said it's a news resolution to do them. I haven't even entered two of them yet. So that's it i'm committed now and have to do them all. Including the one that I was dreading the half Ironman. Although i'm only dreading that because of the swim. You know what happened last time I did an open water swim? Yep I nearly died. Well not quite but I could have done!!
This post is already getting far too long so I might save some for next week. I doubt much will happen between now and then.
Happy running everyone.

No such thing as bad publicity...but they have you over a barrel now!!
Perhaps you should follow up the press release with a note to the local papers that you are in business as a trainer and willing to take people on to train for shorter distances... like a marathon etc etc.
Looking forward to seeing your name in lights soon, and I will be at the end of the South Downs Way for your autograph!!
