Overview

I did the London marathon thinking that it would be a one-off, and that I'd get the whole marathon thing out of my system, but here's the result!

Well, I've made the decision about Dublin - there's no way I'm gong to be up to a marathon in the time I've got left, and I've been getting really worried and stressed about it, so I've really not been enjoying my runs, trying to push myself too hard.  I don't want to walk round the course - seems to contradict the whole idea of doing a marathon for me!  I feel much better now I've made this decision -  I'm disappointed, but I'm now enjoying running again, without the pressure of a very tight training schedule. My application for London has been sent, and I've contacted lots of charities for Golden bond places, so fingers crossed!!  I might actually do what I did last year, and get my place sorted now, so I'll have something to look forward to !  I'll keep blogging, over on the 2006 London page, and I'll keep up with all of those of you doing Dubliin too.

I'm STILL struggling to get back into training, but I've just bought myself a Garmin, which is fantastic - don't know how I ever managed without it!  However, I'm now aware of exactly how slow I am!  Scary.  I tried upping my pace, just to see what it felt like to do 9/8/7 etc min miles....won't be trying that again any time soon. Got to 6-min mile pace and felt like I was going to die. Had to stop at the side of the path - was virtually on all fours, much to the concern then amusement of a passing dog-walker. Note to self - do not EVER try running that fast again!  I went out on my bike last night and did 5-min miles - how the hell do people RUN that fast when I was knackered just pedalling?!  I think this has given me the kick up the behind I needed, Dublin still seems ages away, which it isn't really. I got more worried last night about the prospect of the Glasgow half at the beginning of Sept...will be strapping on the running shoes tonight and going out for an hour to do whatever I can - if it's a run/walk session, so be it!

Not much running to report, but my conscience is starting to get the better of me...I'll be back at it any day now!  It doesn't seem possible that I ran a marathon not so long ago and am going to do another one in a few months!  Roll on the summer hols.....

Anyone seen any signs of Derek?  He's been unusually quiet....maybe he's trying to trick Trevor into taking it easy!

I decided after the horror that was the Aberdeen 10k to take a total break from running for a short while, and I think I'm just about ready to get back into it now.  Am feeling very fat and flabby, so a good long look in the mirror should get me back out there! Reading other blogs is helping too....watch this space, my training for Dublin starts very soon.  If I can tear myself away from Big Brother, that is - it's amazing how compelling a bunch of complete freaks locked in an enclosed space can be! (Pete's lovely though)

I just did the Aberdeen 10k.....is it really just 5 weeks since i did a marathon??!  Admittedly, I really haven't trained much since, just been out once or twice a week, and I've been aware in the past week or two how much my fitness level has dropped.  So, the race today.....grim!!  My slowest race, ever - the wind was a total nightmare, it was basically 2 steps forward, one step back!  And ok, perhaps following the Jade Goody style of race preparation isn't ideal (too much bad food, too much wine, too much lazing around).  And ok, I did have a few glasses of vino last night. Not a textbook pre-race evening, it has to be said, so I guess it could've been a lot worse.  And it was good to do another race - I think mentally it'll help, not thinking that the last race I did was a marathon!  Why did Dublin seem like such a great idea? The thought of another marathon is really daunting right now....

Race entered, hotel booked, flights organised......god these marathons are an expensive habit!!  Better make sure I enjoy it then!  Can't believe I'm doing another marathon this year, where will it all end??!

Oh well then, if you all insist, I'll actually enter the dublin marathon!!  On the assumption that the boss can't resist my charm and will give me the time off, of course!  Got round to buying an mp3 player, and very chuffed that I've even managed to get some music onto it!  Going to go for a nice leisurely run with some music tomorrow, I think I might even leave my watch at home and just enjoy the experience. Bye for now!
