Overview

I'm Jo, I'm a 31 year old mother of 2 young children and a housewife and today I did something that I am hoping is going to change my life, I entered to run the marathon next year!!

Currently I struggle to run up the stairs or do the school run but I am detemined that with a lot of blood, sweat and tears I am going to do this.  I haven't got a clue where I'm going to start, or how, but after too many years of hiding behind my kids as a reason never to do anything today is the day I decided all of that ends and I am going to start doing all the things I always dreamed of and get off my fat arse and do it!!

I'm going to get up early tomorrow and go for a little jog, probably just round the block, and see how it goes.  Got to start somewhere!  I'm going to have a look at all the training advice etc on the website and maybe work out a timetable and set myself some goals, of course I may not even get to the end of the road tomorrow and then realise how stupid I really am and give up, thats what I usually do.  We'll see, and any encouragement, advice, abuse, would be much appreciated!!

Planned Races

6 December - Gloucester Park 5k

24 January - Benfleet 15 (miles)

25 April - Virgin London Marathon 26.2 miles

Gonna fly now,

It's a long road and then rush, rush (not the Paula Abdul one, some 80's one from either Scarface or Soproanos) were the first 3 songs on hubby's ipod today.  Kind of felt appropriate as I was running along. Ususally when I borrow his Ipod I flick through all the other stuff until I get to Guns 'n' Roses but today I thought I'd perservere, and also as I didn't have any pockets had attached it to my jogging bottoms so didn't want to keep taking it on and off again flicking. To be honest it was quite nice listening to something different and not knowing what was coming next.  I caught the end of the Rocky soundtrack, which is always inspiring and then it went onto some 80's stuff from the soundtracks to Sopranos and Scarface and must admit that when that instrumental bit of music came on that is playing at the end of Scarface, and there's all guns blazing and it's in slow motion it felt quite atmospheric, the wind was blowing, there were leaves everywhere, the clouds were blowing by so quickly it was like there were a million different colours in the sky but yet the sun was blazing I actually forgot I was running and was just really enjoying being alive!!

And now to said run.  As I'm sure you've noticed from my lack of activity on here I've not done any running this week.  I have been busy but probably not busy enough to warrant the lack of running.  I must get out of that mindset, how on earth I thought I was going to manage more than 4 runs a week!!  We have a family joke in our house in that "it's always tomorrow...." and then add in said daddy, Alex or Sam and what they are putting off, ie washing hair, doing homework etc but with mummy "its always tomorrow with mummy going for a run!!" and it really is that way.  Even today. I got up at 6 with Sam and started the usual morning routine but put off going for a run as Alex hadn't got to sleep until late, as had hubby so if I left Sam to go for a run then he would have moaned and woke the others up.  Dropped Sam off at pre-school at lunchtime and even on the way back am thinking "if I go for a run this evening then I can go to the shops and get the bits I need" but luckily seeing what a lovely day it was I took the plunge, gave up the shopping trip and went for my run.  Went to the school field at the end of the road and ran twice round it, 3 miles!! The first lap I ran all of it but the second lap I did a walk/run. I thought about doing a 3rd lap but my legs and lungs were protesting a little so headed home (well go blown home).  Didn't take my phone as had no pockets but did start the stopwatch on the phone as I left so including the warm up/cool down walk home it took 41 mins.  I think that makes about 10 min miles though obviously the first one is faster as I ran that so not too bad and something to work on.  The endorphins are flowing now!!

Am going to sit down later and catch up on everyones blogs - have missed you all!!

Other bit of good news my neighbour has got a club place so once I'm up a few more miles will have someone to train with.  Luckily she's a plodder to so hopefully my lack of distance and her very slow pace will even itself out!!

A good run - well done on getting out there, that's half the battle sometimes.

isn't it great when you're running and you just enjoy your surroundings and the music so much that you forget that you are even running!
It can be such a struggle to fit it all in with other commitments but good on you for making 'tomorrow' happen 'today' :-)

Getting out is very hard in this weather, especially with all the chavs around on the streets.

Keep going.
