Overview

The Edinburgh marathon.  I intend to start slow and get slower. I've done the Great North Run a few times, so now it's time to step up and face the big one. That great challenge. Then I can say - 'I've run a marathon.' And if I can do that, I can do anything. And hopefully help others by doing it too.

Now, everyone has their own theory about how best to train for a marathon. A friend from my running club recommended a book, sports scientist will claim you need the latest drink, gel, lotion or potion to 'give you an edge.' A complementary therapist will tell you massage is the thing.

So here I'm going to document how I run, how I eat/drink/sleep etc and how I feel to try to figure out what works for me. And maybe, just maybe, within these posts, you might find something worth trying yourself too.

Busy busy busy

So I went to the track on Thursday and did 4 x 800m + 1 x 400m intervals plus warm up and cool down obv. Sounds like a fairly easy session right? Wrong! The track is plonked on top of a ridge and it was SO windy, at times I felt like I was running to stand still! I suppose it's good for strength, adds an extra dimension to the training, and it might have been too easy otherwise. Ha ha.

Then yesterday I walked 2 miles because I put the car in the garage for new tyres and walked the rest of the way to work.

And the rest of my weekend has been given over to my other sport - archery. I shot well today (534 for a Portsmouth), and have a competition tomorrow.  This means I'll have to:

a) go for a run in the dark on Monday morning before work

b) buy a treadmill in the next couple of days

c) join the gym on Monday  or

d) miss out a session

What do you reckon?
