Race for Life I've lost 2 stone

I am 52 years old.  Mother of two daughters and grandma to one boy and three girls.   I started to run a couple of years ago, just after I stopped smoking, in order to run with Race for Life with my elder daughter.   We completed that, then I let myself slip and ended up gaining a huge amount of weight.

I was shocked at winning a bequest place in the VLM, but now I've got over the shock and the training has begun!

Gear advice needed!

I'm kinda on a strict budget and I have no idea of the best value-for-money winter gear, ie - jackets, base layer, mid layer etc etc.   I don't want to be throwing my money away on stuff that isn't up to scratch, or even worse, unnecessary!

Can anyone give me some advice, please?

Thank you!

xx

My top bit of advice would be make sure you have the best shoes and socks for your feet and running style. Have a gait analysis done. After that buy good brand running gear in sales/online etc. They may be last year's colours but they will be technically good.

hear hear Johnf!
I buy good labels in online clearances and always buy good shoes (after a gait analysis and specialised fitting). Don't think I have ever paid full price for anything as I'm on a tight budget too.
Even in the depths of winter I found a good base layer (I like polyproplene tops - I get mine sent over from NZ but you can get them here) with a wind proof and shower proof jacket is all that I needed, with a hat and gloves only for when we had that spell last year of -5 during the day for a couple of weeks!

With JohnF in that never scrimp on shoes and socks

After that I tend to wear a summer running vest under a long sleeve top in winter....it works well.

Aldi often ahve sales of really good value running clothes

Good luck

Thanks for the advice, guys!
I have a pair of Air Pegasus running shoes and I love them. They're so comfy, I can hardly even feel them. :-)

I'll look online in the clearance sections for jacket, layers etc.
Unfortunately, our nearest Aldi is around 50 miles away!

Thanks again!

Check out the 'gear' section at www.runnersworld.co.uk You don't have to buy there but there are reviews of the different running clobber which you might find informative.

Excellent - thank you Graham! Reviews of gear will be such a help!
